Our communities are special places. They thrive or wither on the contributions of those that call them home. Our interest lies with these inhabitants - be they individuals or families, business or institutions - and the places that that they choose to call home.

With work varying in scale, complexity and budget, from artist’s studio to private house and from farm to country park, every project is uniquely determined by the ecological, geographical and social qualities of the location and the lives of its community. We believe that good design is not an expensive luxury but rather a means to deliver value and a better way of life.

Michael Lee studied architecture at the University of Bath, Cambridge University and University College London. Prior to forming Michael Lee Architects he worked for Sergison Bates Architects, 6a architects and Tony Fretton Architects. The practice has won and been shortlisted for a number of major international competitions and been described by the Architects’ Journal as a “rising star” of British architecture.

Teaching is integral to the work of the practice and that builds on the belief that architecture is fundamentally a social act. It allows us to explore ideas and carry out research while providing access to extraordinary resources, facilities and people. We believe that the close connection between teaching and practice ensures an on-going rigour and spirit of investigation in our work. Michael currently teaches a final year architecture unit at Kingston University with David Owen of Tony Fretton Architects. He has previously acted as guest critic the University of Bath, the Cass, and the M.I.T.
